If Your Personality Could Be Represented By A Movie, Which Would It Be?
December 25th 2006 23:13
Sometimes I watch movies, and fall in love with movies, because of certain character traits or storylines...
And some come to alarmingly represent, or seem to represent, who I am. Inside.
(Deep inside, under all that pink goo)
I've thought about this long and hard (you wouldn't think I'd have this much time on my hands, would you??)...and there's some I'd like to say represent me.
Michelle's Phieffer's character in Grease 2...she's hot, she wears a lot of pink, she's got this fabulous attitude, and romantic tendencies she tries to hide under her tough-girl attitude...
She sings that fabulous song that's been my mantra all my life...
The Pink Ladies' pledge is to act cool, to look cool, and to beeeee cool...So tell me what's smart...Think Pink!
Then I think, nah...I, for one, don't try to hide my romantic side (ha, ha. That's just funny on its own. An image of me, trying to hide my romantic side...like with a towel or something). I try to be tough, but it often falls apart around me...and she's just waaaay too hot to represent me.
(Well, maybe that's not true, but I'm trying to remain modest)
Then there's Barbra Streisand in The Mirror Has Two Faces...
This doesn't sound quite as romantic, though, revealing myself through a fiftyish character...
(Even though it's all true...her character is alarmingly like me...right down to the food idiosyncrasies)
Then it came to me. After I watched The Notebook for about the tenth millionth trillionth time.
Yes, Ally is all me. She's crazy, romantic, fiery, a bit damaged (although why she's damaged is beyond me, since she seems to come from a good home...her mother is a bit of a worry, though...at least in the beginning of the movie)...she even talks like me.
This is not something I've come up with all on my own here. You know, like strutting around because you think you look exactly like Brad Pitt or something (I'd like to meet a man that has that problem)...
No, this was pointed out to me by my sister. My husband (and what the hell is my husband doing watching The Notebook, anyway??).
At first, I didn't listen to my sister when she rang me and said 'You've got to see The Notebook. She's you. The movie's you. It's all you. You'll love it. You'll cry.'
No, I did not believe her, despite the fact she's probably the one person on this planet that truly knows me the best.
It took me months to see it. Perhaps I was avoiding it, in some subconcious way. And then when I did finally watch it...whew. I've got a love affair with a movie. A DVD.
And I still cry, despite watching it all the damn time.
Now that's a love affair!
Now, a question...which movie represents you best?? Your inner workings, your longings, your character? Perhaps even your past or what you've gone through?
And some come to alarmingly represent, or seem to represent, who I am. Inside.

Great question...
I would have to say 'Elizabeth' with Cate Blanchett. I very much identify with Elizabeth, particularly Blanchett's interpretation of her character, aside from the royalty aspect.
High bar to reach, low expectations from those around her that she would achieve it, fiery, passionate, strong, and perfectly capable of doing it all. Intelligent, flirty, fun...
It has deeply affected me and the way that I view life. In fact, I watched this movie just a couple of days before I took the plunge and enrolled in college.

PS LOVED Grease! I have seen it at least 40 times...no joke!

Elizabeth was a deeply flawed individual...childhood trauma, etc. Secretive.

Voices,
Ooh....you've got me intrigued now.
I've never seen the movie...will go and hire it now...
Thanks for sharing...I've really done this so I can glimpse aspects of people's personalities through their movie choices!!

Good luck with that...I haven't seen 'The Notebook', either, sorry to say. I really need to do that. I have heard so many wonderful things about it.
Thanks for the reminder on that...and good luck with your 'analysis project'! You have me curious about what my choice would say about me! *smile*

A Simple Christian
Poetic, amusing, thought provoking and most likely to knife people who hurt me (I tend to SAY things rather than actually stab them) and I have great dialogue.
Awaiting my analysis.

JZ,
You people are going to keep me busy. I can see this now...
Funny you say this...my BMF (Best Male Friend) loves this movie...I haven't seen it, but I'm starting to think, from your comment, that this is perhaps him, too.
I'll let you know after I finish my in-depth analysis on your deep, innermost being, JZ.

To Brian,
This is a great insight into your character....seen Forrest Gump....I loved it, but feel I probably cannot watch it again...
(Just using you all to create a new DVD list, you see)
Makes me cry way too much.
Is a beautiful movie, though. Love what it represents.
Thanks for sharing this with me,

No more pink marshmallows for you.
Orble has banned them.
Too hard-core?
Be very careful with any jokes. Okay. Use the word flatulence. Not old f-. *
Keep an eye on the papers. The political section. If you see a party ‘Free the Pink Marshmallows’ at the next federal election? Vote 1. That will be me.
Unless of course, the term ‘pink marshmallow’ is banned under the ‘Freedom of Speech’ Act. It might be too overtly sexual for some. *
If it is?
That guy being arrested for protesting outside of parliament house in a pink marshmallow suit? That will be me.
I don’t know what jail I’ll be in yet.
But if they let me write a letter (and don’t censor it too much)? I’ll write to you. And let you know.
Come an visit me.
But don’t wear pink. You might get arrested.
Actually, wear pink. They might put you in the same cell as me.
Actually don’t. They still segregate men and women. Even in this non-sexist society we live in.
If all else fails. I’m running for parliament as the Incorrect Party.
People will catch on.
Eventually, they’ll call it the Politically Incorrect Party. The Politically Incorrect Political Party. I’ll be the only member.
What do you think?
Too hard core? For some?*
In jail?
I’ll be praying to every god there is. And a few more. Just praying my heart out, K.L.!
To be reincarnated as one of your pink marshmallows.
David.
PS: Regarding your movie question.
Easy to answer that one.
Barton Fink. (Failed Writer)
Taxi Driver (Psycho)
King of Comedy (Failed Comedian)
Cape Fear (Psycho)
The one I identify with most? Bambi.

Hardly.
Life is my life's movie.
It could possibly do with better direction and a more brilliant cast and I definately would love it to be shot in more exotic locations but I'm happy enough with it.
Forrest Gump made me cry also.
I couldn't believe I'd wasted good money on it.
It wasn't even tight-arse Tuesday!

David (My David, damn it!!),
I am way, way, way too upset right now. Way too upset.
This should not have happened. You are worth more than this. I hope you know that. I really do.
I'll come join you in that cell....arrested for too much damn pink....too much flirting.....too much love...
Much love always,
K.L.

To Bhumika,
I love both those movies myself...
Especially Never Been Kissed...a personal fav of mine.
Actually, when the movie first came out, everybody, and I mean everybody, claimed I was sooo Drew's character in it...
I didn't know whether to be insulted or take it as a compliment.
(I was a bit insulted. She is rather dorky in it)
But close friends of my sister and I's always claim Drew Barrymore is the third Almeroth sister...she just doesn't know it.
Thanks for stopping by! And cheers to being hopelessly romantic...
