Your Christmas Book Wish List...K.L. Almeroth's Book Club, Edition 3
What is the number one thing I ask Santa for Christmas (apart from world peace and for some kind of magical pink champagne fountain to appear in my lounge room)?
Books. Of course it would be books.
Or the ability to be published, but hey! Santa's only one man, after all. Not a publishing house (although I wish he were...a publishing house, that is. A jolly, fat, wish-giving, publish-my-damn-book publishing house).
Every year I love to get books as presents, both as birthday gifts and Christmas presents. I have such fond memories of tearing open wrapping paper, my eyes widening to discover a boxed set of J.R.R Tolkein's The Lord of The Rings trilogy (thank you, Cruz, for that one!).
My twelfth birthday all I wanted was the latest Sweet Valley High book. I think I was probably up to about number sixty something in the collection (would have to check my diaries for this information, and, woah, that would be a scary flashback to the past...bad teeth and bad hair come strangely to mind...a bit like Hermoine Granger before she becomes this blossoming swan...although I'm not saying I'm a swan here, at all. More like a tall flamingo...but short.)...
And this was all I wanted. A Sweet Valley High book.
I was so happy to unwrap one of my presents, and discover the book. That was a happy birthday.
My father also gave me this beautiful necklace, with like a circular plate that you spin, with all these etchings on it. Still, just hanging on your neck, the etches made no reference to anything - they were just etching. But when you spun it, three words could be seen as the round plate spun:
I love you.
I loved that necklace (and my dad, of course!). My twelfth birthday stands out in my mind.
My sister buying me Bridget Jones' Diary a couple of years back. Was a great sister-to-sister book to give (I love Bridget).
A Dickens collection as a kid, from my grandparents, if I remember correctly. A Christmas Carol was one of my favourite stories as a kid. In fact, I plan on reading it a couple of days before Christmas, to get into that Christmas spirit (more so).
My list is still being collected for this year. Nora Roberts' new trilogy comes to mind, her across-time, paranormal The Circle Trilogy. I've already purchased the first book, and gave it to my husband to give to me on Christmas Day (I promise to look surprised). The other two in the trilogy will need to be hunted down and bought (this is what the men in our lives have evolved to - instead of hunting my dinner, he's hunting books and knowledge...or just plain romantic escapism!).
Of course, old Deanie never lets me down - there's always a Christmas Koontz out there. I believe this year it will be Brother Odd, the third in the Odd Thomas trilogy. Considering that I, as his Number One Fan, was a bit (or a lot) disappointed in the second book, Forever Odd, I'm not exactly hanging out for this one.
Yes, I know, very bad and naughty as his NOF, but if you read Forever Odd, you'd know what I was talking about.
Odd Thomas, the first in the trilogy, was complete and utter brilliance...I've already read it like 4 times, and it was only released a couple of years back.
But Forever Odd...is it just me, or did the vampire female in it remind any one else of Parker Posey on Ice? Made her character really very funny, as I pictured her like Parker (I do love the actress Parker Posey, by the way. She's hilarious).
Other than those two fav authors of mine, my Christmas Wish List is looking rather short this year. I'm not sure why that is...there just doesn't seem to be a great deal of new releases this year that I'm after...
Both Sandra Brown and Judith McNaught released new books earlier this year, and they are not multiple book authors.
Possibly Stephen King's Lisey's Story is looking more appealing to me, after our resident Horrorphile mentioned it to me, and I read a review in yesterday's paper. So possibly will add King to the list.
Oh, well. If I can't add books to my Wish List, I'll have to come up with something else...
I did see this rather exciting looking gift box, pink (of course), and filled with Strawberry and cream liqueur, and these lovely pink shot glasses.
Yes, just what I feel like doing on Christmas day...Strawberry Cowgirl shots, while watching my daughter rip open her presents.
What a dream Christmas!

I was at my Dad's this week and he had cleaned out the garage and finally thrown out my Famous Five, Secret 7, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and Sweet Valley High series of books. I was sad to hear that.
My standard gift for anyone who doesnt know what to get me is a book voucher.
I want the latest book in the Laurell K Hamilton Anita Blake series,. I love a good supernatural series....and damn is that a steamy one.
I'm going to give some of the new Dean Koontz a go too after your recommendations. I want to try the Odd Thomas trilogy.
I'm also after the Mary Janice Davidson's latest in her Undead series. Extremely funny vampire romantic comedy series.
But that's about it. I'm going to just have to browse the stores for hours to find more books!
